The word on the street is that Al-Zarqawi was tracked down with Smart Dust.

As smart dust and other dust/mote/RFID technology is being worked on
all over the Bay area..and hey, as our own gov. is watching closely
Oregon's use of remote technology to recoupe transportation monies
currently being lost through greener cars, I'm curious what folks think
of all that.

We're kind of in one of the seats of the development of tracking technology.

acking)
If so, we should sprinkle the Guantanamo inmates with it and let them go
on a "tag and release" program. When they get to Osama, we send them a
nice JDAM gift!

Won't work even if it is technically feasible - it seems about 1/2 of
the 94 Afghan "detainees" were not guilty of serious crimes (whether
that means they are completely innocent or were caught jaywalking,
shoplifting, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or whatever
is unknown). The rest include some former Taliban officials, but the
Taliban's main connection with Osama was some marital arrangment
betwen Mullah Omar's family and Osama's family. That, of course, meant
that the head Taliban would provide Osama with some favors and support
in view of the family ties, as was customary in the 10th century,
which is where their mindset was. If we let them go, most will
probably go back to the family cabbage patch (if they still have one)
and try to plant some more crops, or whatever it is they do to put
food on the table.
