One of my neighbors in SF lives in a house where the rent is $2.3k a
month. She pays only $300-400/month with taxpayers paying the remaining
near $2000/month in the form of Section 8 subsidies. I know this, as the
owner of the home is an acquaintance of mine and told me.
When walking by her house, I've noticed she has a 30+" plasma or LCD TV
mounted on her living room wall. I thought it a bit strange that a
person who relies on the working public to keep a roof over their head
has the means to afford a luxury entertainment system.
This week, I noticed she's now driving a brand new Humvee. It seems
crazy that a person could qualify or remain qualified for Section 8
subsidies while having the means to buy $50k+ car and other luxury items.
Does HUD really allow this sort of thing?
