I live in the SF Bay Area and just heard that mayor Gavin Newsom is
dating some model/bimbo who's a Scientologist. Any thought as to
what the security risks are? I'm sure he's well-off but not so rich
as to make him worth the cult's time, so is there anything the cult
could do with a subverted, brainwashed mayor of a major U.S. city?

So what kind of community is Tampa Bay?

I live in the Tampa Bay area, and have had close relatives in the SF
area for more than 25 years. I love SF. It's clean, it's tolerant, it's
progressive, and it's got great restaurants in comparison. Not to
mention Beach Blanket Babylon.

But to answer the initial, important question of what can Scn, Inc. do
with a brainwashed mayor? Ask Gabe Cazares - he was mayor of Clearwater
in the 1970s when L Ron Hubbard brought Scientology there and purchased
their first building under an assumed name of 'United Churches of
Florida'. Scn, Inc, asked Gabe to deal with them under the table, and
he refused.

He was promptly 'dead agented' as per church policy --set up in a fake
hit and run accident, had stories about infidelity made up and spread
around, anything to discredit him, with a goal of his becoming 'utterly
ruined'.

Cazares was a target of Operation Tricycle, which was meant to secure
'safepoints' in Clearwater, to make Clearwater ready to become
Scientologyland. This all came out when the feds raided Clearwater in
1979, discovered Operation Snow White, and sent 11 cult members to
jail, including the third wife of L Ron Hubbard. Operation Snow White
was a plan to infiltrate government offices, media outlets, etc. and
replace 'bad' information about Scientology with 'good' information.
Yes, it sure sounds like a bad 1950s plot line, but there's a reason
for that.

Gabe wasn't brainwashed; Scientology's thirst for power could certainly
find something to do with the mayor of SF.

Sometimes it's just to get enough dirt on someone so you can blackmail
them later.

None. Gavin is a bright guy. If he can handle the crazy, but
lovable, political groups in his city, many of which are staffed by
poor but highly skilled individuals, he'll have no trouble handling a
group founded by some science fiction writer.

BTW, the "model/bimbo" is actually an actress, according to the article
I saw in a local newspaper, and whether it is "dating" versus "just
being friends" is something I'll leave to him - it is none of my
business and public figures deserve to have a personal, private life
just like the rest of us.
