Discussion:
Where Is Desley Brooks On The Police Murders?

I was just listening to radio talk show host Gil Gross who was
talking about the four police officers who were murdered in Oakland over
the weekend. He said that he tried to get any of the Oakland City
Council Members to talk to him. Not one of them would comment. Not even
the biggest loudmouth in the bunch Desley Brooks. She yammered and
hollered about how Oscar Grant was murdered and she even called it an
execution. Well over the weekend two cops were executed by a lowlife
scumbag and two others were killed by the same lowlife and you don't
hear a peep from Desley Brooks. You don't see her walking down the
street protesting the murders or anything. I think Desley Brooks feels
that since a lot of her constituents hate the police, she won't risk
supporting them in any way. Sure Brooks might give a little lip service
but there is no outrage from her. I find this totally disgusting that no
Oakland City Council Member has decided to speak out on these shootings.

This is very telling and I think we need some new City Council
Members who actually care about the city and will do something about the
crime in Oakland.

Whom would you protest? The guy who killed those officers was killed
himself and his family offered apologies to the families of the police
officers who were killed and said they were shocked at what he did.
Meanwhile various public officials, including the governor, offered
condolences to the officers' families.

It's not like anyone supports what this person did. Nobody really
knows why he did it.

Our resident left wing nutcase misses the point again.
Our resident right-wing loon apparently wants people to run around
the streets protesting when there is no individual or organization
to direct the protest at. It's not like anyone tried to let the
murderer get away with it.

If I were Desley Brooks or I had her position, I would be protesting
Dellums and anyone else who allows crime to fester in Oakland without doing
anything. But no Brooks is probably glad they got shot. I don't know if
she's made any statements about it. This is a major event and you don't hear
dick from her. But if it was someone who was beaten by police, she would run
to any camera she could find.

Doesn't really mater exactly why he did it, it only matters that he did

<http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2009/03/24/MNUP16LJI8.DTL>:

"Oakland was awash in flowers, candles and tears Monday as
shock over the slayings of four police officers slowly ebbed
and the long process of mourning and soul-searching began.

"A steady flow of silent, somber mourners filed into City Hall
throughout the day, signing condolence books and leaving cards
for the families of the officers who were fatally shot
Saturday.

"At Oakland police headquarters seven blocks away, a pile of
flowers outside the entrance steadily grew as residents
dropped off bouquet after bouquet, some homemade from spring
wildflowers and some elaborate creations from florists."
and
"City officials had planned to keep out the condolence books
for only a day, but so many mourners turned out that staff
members decided to leave the books until the last person
signed. Officials also have planned a vigil for tonight and
plan to place boxes in all branch libraries for residents to
drop off condolence cards."
and
"'Most people in Oakland are grieving and want to help, they
want to participate in some way,' said City Councilwoman Jane
Brunner, who was among the city officials sponsoring the
condolence books. 'It's a time for Oakland to come together
and work through this horrific tragedy.'"

Ask Desley Brooks. The article mentioned one person and numerous
unnamed city officials, but did not claim to provide a complete list.

You claimed that no Oakland city council member had decided to speak
out about the shootings, yet the quotes in this article indicate that
your statements were not true.

OK I figured it out now. You're a loon and your stupid. If you can't

liar. Either way, you aren't wroth my time any more because your an idiot

If you had heard from Brooks like I asked, you would have said so. She's
been quiet because she's a politician pandering to the "hate the police" and
"blame the police first" crowd.

I'm a liberal and you could call me left wing but don't confuse that
with a socialist or The Wacko Wing. The Wacko Wing is the wing of both left
and right that will support crazy shit. Like when the BART cop shot Oscar
Grant in the back, the crazy right wing was saying "That will teach him to
mess with the police." and the crazy left wing was saying "The cop executed
him in cold blood." The truth and facts don't matter to these people. I call
it a murder but I don't know if he really meant to kill him. Could have
thought he had the taser. The wacko wing in the case of the four murdered
cops are out there holding up signs saying what a hero Lovelle Mixon was.

I still have not heard one statement from Desley Brooks. I wonder if
she's going to attend the funerals this morning. I think she has no choice
at all.

Regardless of whether you like Brooks or not, it really isn't
appropriate for you to post such innuendo given the couple of minutes
it took using Google to find if if Brooks had said or done anything.

<http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-oakland-police-shooting22-2009mar22,0,4815395,full.story>:

Oakland City Councilwoman Desley Brooks, whose district
includes the area, said her heart was with the officers'
relatives.

"Our prayers go out to all of the families of all the
officers," she said. "They do such a tremendous service. And I
can't even find words beyond what I have just said."

<http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/03/25/18581997.php>:

"A vigil organized by Oakland City Councilmember Desley Brooks
(District 6) was held at the intersection of 74th Avenue and
MacArthur for the four Oakland Police Department officers
killed on Saturday, March 21st, in two separate incidents in
the vicinity. Jayson Landeza, OPD Chaplain, MCd the event and
speaks first on the audio here. Youth Uprising read a
poem. Several other clergy spoke, and the Oakland Interfaith
Gospel Choir sang a few songs. The new Oakland Police Chief
Howard Jordan spoke. Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums also spoke,
about 38 minutes into the audio here -- he mentioned that
President Obama had called him and was in the process of
calling the family members of the Oakland police
officers. Jane Brunner, President of the Oakland City Council
spoke."

In other words, you said something that was completely undefensible,
tried to weasel out of it, and are now blaming me for what you stupidly
said. You can "plonk" and "killfile" as much as you like: I could care
less what an idiot like you reads.

You said that this Gil Gross guy stated he wasn't able to talk to
anyone on the Oakland City Council (as if they should drop whatever
they are doing to fit the schedule of some talk-show host). Then you
made a very simple, declarative statment, "I find this totally
disgusting that no Oakland City Council Member has decided to speak

claim. I gave you a URL to a newspaper article indicating otherwise.
So what do you do? You start foaming at the mouth because you don't
like the facts.

As a follow-up. Desley Brooks did attend the vigil for the four cops
and released a dove along with Mayor Dellums and others. She was also at the
public memorial that was attended by 20,000 at the Oakland Coliseum Complex.
