Is anyone else a fan of Obey propaganda art? I have been brainwashed
by Shepard Fairey’s post-Orwellian neo-socialist pop-art, and now I
can’t get enough of it.
The funny thing is that I really really hate Obama and this artist
created Obama’s major campaign images. I already knew the part about
Andre the Giant and his posse from the documentary “Bomb It!” about
graffiti and sticker artists, and of course “They Live” is my favorite
movie, and “1984” is my absolute favorite book of all time. So when I
saw the Andre/Obey image morph into the Obama image I assumed it had
to be a parody, an anti-Obama message suggesting Obama as Big Brother.
I just spent an hour photographing his latest exhibit of people’s art
on the wall at Geary and Larkin. The zapatista-inspired “Mujer
Fatale,” and another really cool image of a soldier wearing a peace
symbol and ammo belt. I’ll try to post some links to photos soon.

“The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom
they oppress.”
