The fags were dying of heat faster than AIDS and monkeypox.
According to early reports, the hottest temperatures ever
recorded in Bay Area history were set during the Labor Day
Weekend heat wave on Monday.

In a phone call with SFGATE, National Weather Service Bay Area
meteorologist Rick Canepa reported that three different Bay Area
cities set or matched their all-time September highs.

In Gilroy, the temperature hit 112 degrees, matching the
previous September high.

In Santa Rosa, the mercury also got up to 112, breaking the
previous September high.

And in Livermore, the temperature was recorded at a scorching
116 degrees — the highest mark the National Weather Service Bay
Area has ever recorded in any part of the Bay Area.

That 116 mark was also matched in Fairfield according to San
Francisco Chronicle meteorologist Gerry Diaz.

(SFGATE and the San Francisco Chronicle are both owned by Hearst
but operate independently of one another.)

While the Bay Area had been preparing for an extraordinary heat
wave for the last few days, the temperatures on Monday were even
hotter than many expected.

"It could have been hotter in some locations than people were
forecasting,” said Canepa.

Downtown San Francisco (which is now included in the Heat
Advisory) reached 91 degrees Monday, not close to its September
record of 106 degrees. In Oakland the temperature rose to 100
degrees, nine degrees shy of its all-time September high.

And it could be just as hot tomorrow.

"You would expect hot to very hot (temperatures tomorrow) with a
lot of places getting at or above 100 degrees. Conditions are
forecast to be nearly the same as today,” said Canepa.

At least near the coast, temperatures could cool off a bit on
Wednesday. But further inland, the highs could persist longer.

The heat is expected to abate throughout the Bay Area by the
weekend.

Too bad that asshole DA Gascon didn't get hit by lightning.
Amid the record-breaking temperatures throughout the Bay Area
and the state during this prolonged heat wave, there was an
interlude of truly wild weather in one part of Southern
California on Sunday.

In Santa Clarita, a city located about 30 miles northwest of Los
Angeles, residents were baking in 110 degree weather mid-
afternoon on Sunday when a surprise thunderstorm rolled in,
stunning residents with thunder, driving rains and 60 mph winds.

A video by a Santa Clarita resident captured the storm’s
intensity as it showed her backyard being battered by as the
wind-driven rain slammed her patio furniture and blew it into
her swimming pool.

Colin McCarthy of StormWatch retweeted the jarring video, noting
that “Santa Clarita, after hitting 110F this afternoon was just
hit by a hellacious severe thunderstorm bringing 60 mph wind
gusts, hail, heavy rain and frequent lightning. Incredible
swings in SoCal.”

Milo Wakefield, a student at Cal Arts, told television station
KABC that the storm “just came out of nowhere,” beginning with
thunder and lightning that was soon followed by rain driven
sideways by the howling winds.

All of this was happening while the Santa Clarita temperatures
remained above 100 degrees.

On Monday, as the heat wave continues, temperatures are forecast
to soar throughout the state with many spots projected to reach
or exceed 110 degrees. In the Bay Area, Livermore is forecast to
hit 114 degrees as is Sacramento.

The hottest place in the state remains Death Valley, which is
forecast to hit 122 degrees on Monday. The SoCal monument
reached 127 degrees last week, setting a record for the hottest
temperature anywhere on the planet.

but some scientists are arguing that number may not be entirely
accurate. This is only a month after monsoonal rains flooded
parts of Death Valley, damaging several roads. While for many
such temperatures are frighteningly high, others see them as a
photo op.
